Olympus Superzoom 110 – Deceptively Capable

Lens: 38 -110mm f/3.8-8.1 10 elements, 8 groups

Film speed settings: 100-3200 ISO, DX coded

Film Format: 35mm

Shutter: 2 to 1/500 sec

Aperture: f/3.8 – f/26

Focusing: Active Autofocus, min 0.6m

Light Meter: Automatic 3 zone light metering

Battery: 2 x CR123A

Flash: Built-in

Year: 1990’s

Country: Japan

The good:

• Camera is film tested, exposure is good, as is focus.

• The lens is of a good quality, yielding pleasant images.

• Focus locking, night modes, remote operation and a timer makes this a surprisingly capable camera.

• Weather proofing provides some piece of mind.

• CR123A batteries are easy to find.

The less good:

• General wear and tear, and small crack in top screen cover. Does not affect use.

• At the beginning of the film test, there was a small light leak in the top left of the frame. As the roll progressed, it lessened, before disappearing. The transient nature of the leak implies it is a shutter issue, as the fact that it disappeared as the roll progressed, implies that it is due to the camera probably not having been used in 20 years or so. I imagine that regular use will keep it to a minimum.
